BMW X2 gets M treatment, adds power and style

ABU DHABI: BMW has given the X2 an ‘M’ upgrade which makes it bolder and more powerful than before. The compact crossover was launched last year with the aim to extend the brand’s lineup. It got sound aesthetics accompanied by a power-packed 234 PS twin-turbo engine. With M, BMW’s in-house tuner, getting to work on the X2, the things have uplifted.

The BMW X2 M35i has received an aesthetic makeover which makes it up for its dominant profile. It gets exclusive M rear spoiler, 19-inch alloys with big brakes, Cerium Grey accents on ORVMs and front bumper and M Sport twin exhaust setup at the rear. Aside from this, there are no major changes done to its exteriors.

Inside the cabin, the X2 M35i gets an M Sport stylish-looking steering wheel with paddle shifters, full-color head-up display, ConnectedDrive system, and Apple CarPlay feature.

The M35i is the most powerful X2 that underpins a 2.0-litre four-cylinder, twin-turbo engine producing a max power of 310 PS and a peak torque of 450 Nm, mated to an 8-speed Steptronic gearbox. The new M35i can travel from naught to 100 kmph in just 4.9 seconds. The company claims that this is the most powerful four-cylinder engine they’ve ever produced.

For enhanced handling, the M Sport suspension system has been equipped on the X2 M35i which has stiffer springs and dampers. The new adaptable suspension comes with two driving modes, comfort and sport, allowing the driver to switch between the two at will. For improved traction, an M Sport Differential has been installed on the front axle. The brakes at both, front as well as rear ends, are bigger than before to make the X2 come to halt more efficiently.

BMW will start producing the X2 M35i in November this year. Expect the car to roll out in different markets in the second half of 2019.
