BMW reveals Concept Skytop, previewing future two-seat GT

ABU DHABI: At the Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance, BMW revealed the Concept Skytop on May 24. It has an exotic and unique design with the perfect combination of elegance and driving dynamics. 

In terms of looks, it seems reminiscent of its predecessors like the Z8.  It has grand tourer-like proportions and a two-seater open-top layout with a V8 engine echoing the 1998 Z8 roadster’s characteristics.

The Concept Skytop features a sleek and stylish exterior. It features sharp creases and cuts throughout, highlighted by the iconic shark-nose design, a sweeping hood, and an illuminated kidney grille. Innovative winglets replace traditional door handles, enhancing the Concept’s futuristic appeal.

The Concept Skytop’s low-profile tires have been mounted on light alloy wheels that have gill-like details. Custom-developed LED headlights have been placed on milled aluminum carriers, enhancing its front profile. Similarly, the slim rear lights match the front and harmonize well with the overall design.

The cabin features top-quality leather seats that are beautifully adorned with brogue-style accents. Tasteful crystal applications enhance the beauty of the elements such as the gear shifter. Crafted with precision, the BMW Dingolfing plant’s traditional saddlery craftsmanship is reflected by the surfaces inside the cabin.

While details remain limited on the mechanical aspects, BMW mentioned that the Concept Skytop is equipped with a 617-hp 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. It serves as a design study, leaving uncertainties about its production potential. We await further developments in the concept of Skytop's evolution.
