BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe officially revealed

BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe officially revealed

BMW has officially taken the covers off the new 2 Series Gran Coupe in style. The premium four-door coupe will be positioned between the 1 Series and 3 Series line-up. Initially, only two trims will go on sale in the US, including the 228i xDrive and the M235i xDrive. Of the two, the latter is sportier and more powerful.

On the styling front, the German auto marquee has incorporated stylish-looking LED halogen running lights, swept-back headlamps, trademark kidney-grille and a long, chiselled bonnet. Additionally, it gets a sloping roofline, flared haunches at the back and sleek frameless windows. The wrap-around taillights are slim and smart with LED patterns capable of grabbing attention.

Inside, everything is premium as you’d expect from a brand like BMW. There are a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an optional 9.2-inch head-sup display. The 2 Series Gran Coupe also gets an option of BMW Live Cockpit. Some of the active safety features, you’d find in the 2 Series Gran Coupe are adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist.

Under the hood of the 2 Series are two engine options, a four-cylinder 2.0-litre and a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder. While the former is fitted inside the 228i xDrive producing a max power of 231 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm, the latter is used by M235i xDrive producing 305 PS of power and 450 Nm of torque. The 228i xDrive can touch 96 Kmph in just 6 seconds, whereas the M235i xDrive is quicker by 1.3 seconds clocking the same speed in just 4.7 seconds. Both the engines are coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission system.

Both trims come with the all-wheel-drive system as standard. The traction technology on the 2 Series has been borrowed from the BMW i3. To be precise, it’s the wheel slip limitation system that takes braking to a new level. It prevents slip by applying light braking to inner wheels and works in tandem with the xDrive system to improve gripping power.

The 228i model gets 17-inch alloys as standard,  while the M variant is blessed with 18-inch alloy wheels. To add spice, BMW is offering the M235i model with an option of M-sport steering and 19-inch 235/35R performance tyres. The M235i also gets additional bracing and a sport suspension system, which lowers the ride height by 10 mm. Additionally, there is an optional dynamic damper control system that gets two setting options, including Comfort and Sport.

The pricing of the 2 Series Gran Coupe is yet to be announced. While its production will start next month, it would be available to the American customers by early 2020.
