Bentley Bentayga Speed is the world’s fastest SUV
ABU DHABI: The Lamborghini Urus has been dethroned as the world’s fastest SUV. Going just 1 kmph faster than the Urus at 306 kmph, the Bentley Bentayga Speed is now the top dog in the SUV speed race. This is rather impressive considering the fact that the Bentley weighs 2,491 kg versus the 2,200 kg Lamborghini.
A plethora of exterior changes can be seen on the Bentley Bentayga Speed over the regular version. These include massive 22-inch wheels, a larger rear spoiler, and darkened grille mesh. On the inside, you get a fair bit of Alcantara being used, but customers can choose the leather option at no extra cost.
Powering this mammoth SUV is a 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 mill. Power figures stand at an impressive 635 PS and torque at 900 Nm. These figures are only a slight improvement over the regular Bentayga, which makes 608 PS and the same 900 Nm. An 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system help propel this SUV from 0-100 kmph in 3.9 seconds (the regular Bentayga takes 4.1 seconds). The Urus, on the other hand, takes 3.6 seconds for the 0-100 kmph sprint.
The looks and power are not the only things that have been changed in the Bentayga Speed. The suspension is tweaked along with the Dynamic Ride electric active roll control system, to provide better handling. Bentley is also offering optional carbon ceramic brakes, which are 20 kg lighter than the regular iron brakes. The carbon ceramic brakes offer a maximum braking torque of 6,000 Nm and heat tolerance of up to 1,000 degrees Celsius.
It will be interesting to see how Lamborghini responds to this, if at all, since the difference is so negligible. We will have to wait and watch to see who makes the next move.
