Aston Martin Valhalla supercar embraces Formula 1 methodologies

ABU DHABI: Aston Martin, known for its high-end vehicles, has collaborated with Aston Martin Performance Technologies (AMPT), which is Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One team's consulting division, for the development of the Aston Martin Valhalla supercar. 

To ensure that the Aston Martin Valhalla supercar meets the highest standards of luxury and performance, the vehicle dynamics team and AMPT are working together. The main areas where AMPT is offering its guidance are aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, and materials. The project is also getting the benefit of AMPT's rapid development knowledge.

"The knowledge and experience of the AMF1 team personnel at AMPT combined with the skills and know-how of our road car development teams has enabled us to bring direct F1 learnings to sports car development," Aston Martin Product Development Director Carlo Della Casa said.

The supercar has adopted the innovative methodologies that are used in Formula 1 design. Simulation tools have been used to make every moment spent in the simulator a step forward toward the project's advancement.

The Valhalla was unveiled in 2019 as a concept with a V6 engine as a component of its plug-in hybrid powertrain. But now it will come with the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 that is present in most of its vehicle lineup. 

Regarding materials, Aston Martin has extensive experience building cars from carbon fibre. However, AMPT is helping in developing the carbon-fibre monocoque structure of the Valhalla supercar to minimize weight and maximize stiffness. A proprietary system has been developed for the monocoque's construction using F1-derived autoclave technology and resin-transfer moulding.

The Aston Martin Valhalla will roll off the production line in 2024. Only 999 of these supercars will be produced to retain their exclusivity.
