Aston Martin to produce limited-edition V12 Speedster
ABU DHABI: Luxury sports car manufacturer Aston Martin has confirmed that it will produce a limited version of the new V12 Speedster and the car will make its global debut later this year. Only 88 units of the sports car will be manufactured, targeting discerning owners. The V12 Speedster, according to the British company, elegantly combines an authentic, driver-centric sports car and is equipped with cutting-edge aviation technology to offer an enthusiastic driving experience.
The open cockpit, two-seater car will be Aston Martin’s tribute to the 1959 Le Mans-winning DBR1 and the CC100 Speedster centenary car. The latter was shown as a concept car in 2013. It sported forward-looking features and was manufactured from advanced materials and expert engineering that has been used all through the Aston Martin range of contemporary sports cars. The DBR1 was among the only three cars to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the World Sports Car Championship in the same year.
The limited-edition Speedster will be hauled by a V12 twin-turbojet, 5.2-litre motor which produces 522 kw and 700 Nm peak torque. The output numbers are a bit less than the DBS Superleggera which produces 533kw and 900Nm peak torque. The new Speedster’s engine will be mated to an 8-speed, ZF-sourced automatic transmission, mounted at the back of the car. Aston Martin claims that the sound quality and engine note will play an important role in the overall limited edition V12 Speedster’s driving experience.
Aston Martin Lagonda president Andy Palmer has said that the V12 Speedster will once again showcase the great British brand's ingenuity and ambition. The car, at the same time, will celebrate the rich and unrivalled British heritage. The 88 collectors, drivers, and sports car aficionados who will own the limited edition V12 Speedster, will secure an iconic new piece of Aston Martin’s history, Palmer said.
The Gaydon-headquartered company, as of now, has not shared any images of the car. That’s unlikely to available until it officially debuts. The limited-edition Speedster is expected to be priced significantly higher than most contemporary sports cars. It will be developed by the company’s in-house Q team. It’s also not clear whether the car will have room for customer modifications.
