Aston Martin hypercar to beat Porsche’s record lap time
ABU DHABI: Aston Martin is working on something exciting and fast. And with it the company claims to beat Porsche’s record lap time around the Nurburgring that was reset after 35 long years, only a few days ago. Christian Horner, the principal of Red Bull Racing team claimed that Aston Martin’s future hypercar, the Valkyrie AMR Pro will be capable of beating the lap time set by a Le Mans race car.
He also mentioned that the hypercar is still in production and will take a few years to get it rolling. However, he hinted that Porsche’s record lap time around the Nurburgring wouldn’t be challenging for the upcoming hypercar.
For unawares, Porsche beat its own lap time record of 6:11.113 around the green hell a few days ago. The new Nurburgring record lap time was reset to 5:19.55 with the Porsche 919 Evo Tribute. However, breaking the record was not an easy task as it took 35 years for the automaker to beat its own previously-set record.
Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro is developed jointly with the Red Bull Racing. Take note it will be the Aston Martin’s first ever hypercar.
At heart, the Valkyrie AMR Pro will have a 6.5-litre V12 naturally aspirated engine and several electric motors, mated to a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS). This is quite opposite to Porsche’s strategy of producing hypercars as it uses turbochargers. The Porsche 919 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre V4 engine that produces more than 1,100 PS of power as said by the automaker and weighs a slightly less than 900 kg.
With the existing setup, the Aston Martin Valkyrie is expected to produce about 1,100 PS of max power while tipping the scales at 1,000 kg. The Valkyrie AMR Pro is expected to hit the top speed of 362 kmph.
With the predicted numbers, it is likely to match the performance of the Porsche 919 but does it have enough to beat the Porsche’s record lap time around the Nurburgring? It is still the ultimate question to be answered. We all have to wait for some years in the future to witness the magic that unfolds upon the launch of Aston Martin’s first-ever hypercar. Till then stay tuned with us to get more insights and updates of the automotive world.
