Aston Martin DBX is likely to get V12

Aston Martin recently introduced the DBX, which is also its first model in the SUV category. It is powered by a Mercedes-AMG- sourced V8 Biturbo 4.0-litre engine, mated to a 9G-Tronic 9-speed auto transmission system which is capable of pumping out a max power of 550 PS and a peak torque of 700 Nm. Earlier it was said by Neil Hughes, the senior manager of global product management at Aston Martin, that the V12 5.2-litre engine wouldn’t fit the latest introduced SUV’s engine because of its outboard-mounted turbochargers. 

However, a report by a publishing house has revealed that the CEO of Aston Martin, Andy Palmer has said that the V12 turbocharged will indeed fit and addition of the same can’t be ruled out. It would be interesting to know which gearbox does the company uses for the bigger engine. 

The larger engine can be seen on the DB11 AMR which generates 639 PS of power. The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S, on the other hand, produces the same amount of power (639 PS) and 900 Nm of peak torque and comes coupled with the AMG Speedshift MCT 9-speed transmission. This means that the company has the paraphernalia to handle outputs of a V12.

The company is also said to be working on a new mild-hybrid 3.0-litre inline-six engine for the DBX, which will be a transformed version of the straight-six M256 turbocharged unit fitted inside the GT53, GLE 53, CLS 53 and the E53, capable of pumping out a max power of 435 PS and a peak torque of 520 Nm.

Palmer further added, “we’ll probably do other engine derivatives (and) other spec derivatives, as you do with any lifecycle management,” He also mentioned in his interview that the DBX platform could possibly become the basis for some new upcoming limited-edition models just like the DB11 platform has been for special-run models in the past.
