Aston Martin DB12 Volante debuts as world’s first open-top super tourer

ABU DHABI: Aston Martin has unveiled the new DB12 Volante, which is the first open-top 'super tourer' in the world. This model is also known to be Aston Martin's most powerful V8 convertible grand tourer (GT) to date.

While the DB12 gets a new name, it is a facelift of the old DB11 – with a more powerful V8 engine, stiffer chassis, luxurious interior, and refreshed exterior. Its power-operated soft-top roof takes 16 seconds to close and 14 seconds to open.

The DB12 Volante will no longer have the firm's bespoke twin-turbo 5.2-litre V12 like its hard-top sibling. Underneath the hood, it has the same Mercedes-AMG-sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that uses an eight-speed automatic gearbox to propel 680 hp and 800 Nm of torque to the rear wheels.

According to Aston Martin, DB12 Volante takes 3.6 seconds to achieve 0-60 mph acceleration and has a top speed of 202 mph. 

Inside the cabin, the intuitive dashboard design of the coupe carries over, featuring digital screens for the infotainment system and instrument cluster. Aston Martin has skillfully crafted the infotainment system, and it extends full support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with the over-the-air updates facility. The standard audio system comes with 11 speakers, but you can also opt for a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup.

The price of the hard-top Aston Martin DB12 is AED 2,122,524.67. It is estimated that the price of the convertible DB12 Volante will be slightly higher.
