Lamborghini Huracan Evo Spyder breaks cover ahead of Geneva debut

ABU DHABI: For that open-road feeling, nothing does it quite like a motorcycle. But if bikes are not your thing, the next best option is a convertible. The best of these would be a fast, sexy one, like the new Lamborghini Huracan Evo Spyder.

Powering this baby bull is a 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 producing 640 PS and 600 Nm of torque. A 7-speed dual clutch transmission powers all four wheels with the help of a Haldex all-wheel drive system. The 0-100 kmph dash is dismissed in 3.1 seconds, and 0-200 kmph takes a mere 9.3 seconds, topping out at 325 kmph. This is slightly slower than the regular hardtop version which takes 2.9 seconds for 0-100 kmph and 9 seconds for 0-200 kmph. Well, why is there is a performance difference you might ask? This is because the Spyder weighs 120 kg more than the hardtop version, thanks to the electrohydraulic soft top.

Raising and lowering the top takes just 17 seconds and can be done at speeds of up to 50 kmph. The top mechanism has resulted in a redesign of the rear deck where the upper intakes are isolated from the roof. Rollover protection was needed along with a new engine cover. To reduce turbulence with the top down, there is an integrated duct between the fins.

On the inside, the Spyder is identical to the hardtop Huracan. An 8.4-inch screen takes the centre stage featuring multi-finger gesture control to operate the climate control, seats, and infotainment system. Phone connectivity is present in the form of Apple CarPlay. The screen also displays the status of vehicles ‘brains’, called Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI). The system not only integrates control for the car’s electronics but also predicts the driver’s next move and sets in place necessary systems to handle it. Three driving modes available are Strada, Sport, and Corsa. Based on the mode, the LDVI adjusts the car’s magnetorheological suspension and all-wheel-drive system to respond to the driver’s steering wheel, braking, acceleration, and gear inputs.

The Lamborghini Huracan Evo Spyder manages to be almost as fast as the regular hardtop version while letting the wind in your hair through the open-air experience.
