2024 may witness the arrival of the BMW i6
ABU DHABI: The EV battlefield is slowly and steadily seeing the entrance of more and more contestants. Moreover, the battle has got so intense that even the largest of the automakers have channelled all their resources and time in developing and launching EVs. With that said, the fire has also made its way to the luxury fastback segment as the likes of the Tesla, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche fight it out to grab the top spot.
Also, the German automaker, BMW is preparing hard to join the fleet with its i6 that has been reported to launch in 2024. According to a report by Autoblog Italia, the soon to be launched BMW i4 four-door coupe and the iX3 & iNext crossovers will be followed by the i6, a four-door coupe. Moreover, the report also tells that the German automaker will offer two powertrain options on the i6 along with an all-wheel-drive system.
While the high-end model will use 250 kW motors for powering both the front and rear axles, the other variant will sport a 150 kW and a 250 kW motor the front and rear axle, respectively. As for the battery pack, there will be a 90 kWh pack offering a single-charge range of 560 km and a larger 120 kWh unit boasting a 700 km range on a single charge. The i6 is said to take its styling cues from the i Vision Dynamics concept that was displayed at the Frankfurt motor show in 2017. Furthermore, while the likes of the i4 and iX3 also feature internal combustion engine siblings in the form the 4 Series Gran Coupe and X3, the BMW i6 will be an EV only offering.
BMW is set to launch the iX3 in Europe in 2020 and the i4 & iNext in 2021. Also, there is an i1 that should be making its way out of the production facilities sometime in 2021. On the other hand, BMW has stopped producing the i8 PHEV and 2024 will see the discontinuation of the i3. It is widely known that the design of the 4800 mm long, 1933 mm wide, and 1387 mm tall i Vision Dynamics concept didn't go down well at the time of its unveiling. Hence, BMW should be making some major changes to the concept's design before carrying forward the cuts and creases on to the upcoming i6.
