2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is the fastest Corvette ever produced
Chevrolet has announced that the all-new Corvette Stingray is the fastest the company has ever produced. With the Z51 Package, the Stingray can clock to 100 kmph in just 2.9 seconds, thereafter crossing the quarter-mile mark in 11.2 seconds at the speed of 195 kmph. Without the Z51 Package, it can sprint to 100 kmph from standstill in 3 seconds flat and the quarter-mile mark in 11.2 seconds at the speed of 198 kmph.
The Vehicle Performance Manager of Chevrolet, Alex MacDonald said, “The performance of the 2020 Stingray has far exceeded our expectations. Moving more weight over the rear wheels helps us get off the line quicker, but it’s the integration between the powertrain and chassis that really takes the performance to new levels.”
The all-new Corvette Stingray comes powered by a 6.2-Litre LT2 Small Block V8 engine mated to an 8-speed DCT that produces a max power of 502 PS and a peak torque of 637 Nm. It also features a performance exhaust. Additionally, giving the performance credit to its chassis retuning, tyre technology, rear weight bias and enhanced aerodynamics won’t be wrong. The LT2’s lubrication system on the Stingray helps in providing excellent performance even at lateral acceleration levels, only by keeping oil in the engine-mounted dry-sump tank and outside the engine’s crankcase.
Moreover, the LT2’s oil filter and cooler assembly get adequate oil and coolant passages that grant it a cooling edge of nearly 25 per cent over the LT1. To reduce mass, the low profile oil pan has been die-casted under high pressure. It is only 3.5 mm thick. Further, the low profile of oil pan allows the engine to be mounted at a lower level on the car for a low centre of gravity which not only improves handling but also its track performance. To further lower engine position, the DCT’s flywheel dampener’s diameter has been reduced.
The global chief engineer of Small Block engines, Jordan Lee said, “The LT2 is one of our best efforts yet in Corvette’s history of naturally aspirated high-performance Small Block V8 engines. This engine is incredibly powerful and responsive. Power is readily available when the driver needs it.”
The camshaft on the car now gets 14 mm gross lift on both intake and exhaust, with an increased time duration. This helps the combustion system to make the most of the extra flow capacity. It is said that better the car breathes better it will perform and the all-new Corvette Stingray is no exception. Its intake system follows a low restriction design, with an 87 mm throttle body and a 210 mm intake runners.
In the Emirates, the all-new Corvette Stingray will be made available from mid-2020.
